In 2005, Daniel moved to Humboldt County to attend Humboldt State University. At HSU he majored in Geography and minored in Appropriate Technology. After graduation, while working at Sun Frost Solar Refrigerators Daniel mentored under green engineering guru Larry Schlussler. One of Daniel’s best qualities is the ability to easily understand and explain technical product information, diagnose and solve problems. Daniel has direct hands on work with design of on and off grid solar power systems. He has a desire to continue development of new appropriate technology designs.

Mishka Straka

Energy Consultant

Mishka started working in Humboldt for Ancient Forest International, an organization that works to safegaurd biological diversity in primary forests in temperate and torpical bioregions, and hasn't left since. Needless to say, he's always had a heart for reversing climate change and community self reliance. His experiences in permaculture, off-grid living, and installing both solar and microhydro electric energy systems make Mishka a perfect fit for us. Nowadays you can catch him driving our electric vehicle around town, or maybe on his bike, or maybe even on foot training for his next marathon!

Brian Parrott

Energy Consultant

Brian came to Humboldt in 1992 to study at HSU. He's been here since, raising his two boys in Trinidad. Brian values helping and teaching others about energy efficiency and saving money. He hopes to help our community be good stewards of the planet. Brian brings decades of sales experience and successful communication skills to the Scurfield team.

Reed Neely-Mangos

Installation and Service Expert

Born and raised in Humboldt County, Reed Neely-Mangos' father mentored him from an early age to be mechanically inclined. As a young child Reed loved to take apart and reassemble electronics to learn how they function. While working as automotive service writer/technician at his family’s locally owned automotive business, he became skilled in working on all things mechanical. He furthered his skill set while working as a stone mason with local Humboldt County construction firm. In his free time Reed likes to spend time with his two children hiking outdoors and spending time at the river.

Elijah Harreld

Installation Expert

Elijah came to Humboldt for work back in 2016. He loves the weather and geography so continues to stay. He has a knack for efficiency and self-independence and hopes to channel those traits into off-grid living one day. Elijah brings electrical and roofing knowledge and experience with him to Scurfield and remains a vital part of the team.

He drives an electric vehicle, has a solar system paired with on-site storage, and even integrated his hot water with his heating system himself. Our company installed Scott's battery system and he liked the work we did enough that he wanted to work with us when the opportunity came about. Through over 20 years of security experience working with every trade you can think of, learning a lot by observing, modifying, monitoring, and controling systems and methods, Scott acquired numerous trade certification and is constantly training and learning more.

He's passionate about helping our community become energy independent and move towards a lifestyle that's less impactful on our planet. Eric's prior work history includes carpentry, plumbing, and applicance installation and maintenance.

Alex Martin
